THINK PINK

And I think to myself…what a STRANGE world! But, we’ve still got it make it wonderful! We are all living in a bizarre dystopian world; it’s transporting me back to A-level English studying The Handmaids Tale! Of course, health is everybody’s priority and my thoughts are with our amazing NHS and keyworkers that are working so hard for us all. Currently grounded from Uni, I am relishing in the excuse to relax and for once I feel as though I have time to plan things that I have wanted to achieve for so long. My blog regretfully hasn’t been the top of my checklist as I’m in third year studying Fashion Marketing and Management and everything just seemed to get in the way! However, now this permitted break is allowing me to reignite my passion for blogging. I’m thinking of fusing my love for styling and my knowledge from university studying fashion marketing to create a vlog series or podcast, as well as looking to start a newsletter tailored to inspire you at the beginning of each month. A lot to look forward to! If you’re sat there incredibly bored, try to find a new passion to ignite whether it’s learning to play an instrument, reading countless books or learning a new language.

To LIGHTEN the mood…here is my favourite look to date – THINK PINK! A traditionally male style in popping pink – yes please! I adore female suiting, it’s not only empowering but also très chic. This suit from ASOS is sourced from Topshop. My guilty pleasure is looking at new-in everyday! While scrolling through ASOS new-in I immediately stopped as I saw this incredible suit. The HOT pink colour caught my eye, as well as the unique button formation. The cropped style blazer is so fashionable. Obviously paired with the matching peg trousers the look pops but the blazer can be paired with blue or white denim jeans or shorts also for a more relaxed style. Once the look arrived I was delighted with the fit; the trousers nipped in at the waist and the blazer was cropped at the perfect length.

I styled my egret Converse boots to compliment the vivid colourway of the suit; the off-white shade balances the look. The boots tone down the formality of the look, adding a relaxed, sassy edge. I finished the look with my Ralph Lauren white bag with gold detailing and ring handle. The white accessories provide that essential colour contrast. I would wear this look for a Spring day shopping, a day at a fashion job or a fun lunch-date (which we are all looking so forward to at the moment!). The look could be paired with tie-ankle sandals and a clutch for an evening look.

I FELL IN LOVE & HIS NAME IS NEW YORK! – PART 3

THE OUTFIT

Dear New York…I’ll never get over you! Dressing in New York is the ultimate fashionista heaven. You have the freedom to display your most outlandish clothing and no-one bats an eyelid! On the final day I wore gold faux-leather trousers, a black sweatshirt with organza bow, a black Coach belt, black military boots, a black croc bag and the distinguished brown fur coat. A metallic piece of clothing paired with block colour makes the trousers stand out whilst blending in enough to be worn for daytime. In New York it’s ideal to make your outfit work for day and night, this outfit fits both.

THE EXPERIENCE

DAY THREE

Time in New York flies! Two Days down with one full day and one-half day left. My heart was already aching at the thought of leaving! I started the third day at the most wonderful breakfast joint, The Smith. I had my all-time favourite, Eggs Benedict, while my NYC homie, Lucie had the biggest stack of American Pancakes!!! We accompanied our breakfast with a pot of tea, how British hahaha! The waiters were incredibly polite and accommodating and even commented on their adoration for the British accent – how cute. We ventured to the bathroom after eating where we found a photobooth and classic shoe-shining chair. Lucie and I got the funniest Photobooth photographs, needless to say we weren’t ready!

After a breakfast full of laughter, we started towards Central Park. En route, we spotted a Barbra Streisand poster flapping in the wind. We found the entrance to the exhibition named ‘Hello Gorgeous!’. The display inside the Temple Emanu-El Streicker Center showed the journey down her musical memory lane with recordings of Streisand classics. Stunning images of the striking star were plastered wall to wall, while her songs played through speakers. Her fashion was iconic.

After immersing ourselves in the exhibition we ventured to Central Park. Littered with unbelievable views of central NYC, the central city park was breath taking. The weather was stunning with blue skies and sunshine. Although I would’ve loved to see the trees in the Summer full of leaves, the stark branches were beautiful. We found the perfect viewing area to get a picture with the city skyline in the background.

Next, we walked Fifth Avenue exploring the Flagship stores of countless designers; Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Coach and Chanel, all with stunning interior design. The Burberry store had an innovative interior design; each floor had a different colourway; one floor pink, one blue, one green. Such a simple yet effective visual. I was lucky enough to visit the week-old Tiffany store with four breath-taking floors. They had a postcard delivery service free from in-store. I sent a Tiffany postcard to my parents, much classier than an average postcard! While walking past the Madison Avenue sign of course I had to get a picture – what a shame they spelt Maddison wrong!

In the evening we walked up to Times Square to enjoy the bright lights at night-time. Times Square is buzzing to say the least! It’s certainly the most tourist-like hub in New York. The streets are full of dessert shops; garish pink cakes, giant caramel brownies and enormous cheesecake slices line the shelves. We dined at the legendary Hard Rock Café, full of life and music; you can’t get more American than that.

DAY FOUR

I felt so disheartened to only have a morning left in the best city I have ever visited. A central hub for fashion. I started the day at Blank Slate Coffee & Kitchen where I enjoyed a blondie with M&M’s, such a treat. The last place I visited was Greenwich Village neighbourhood of Lower Manhattan. I wandered through Washington Square Park. My favourite thing to do whilst travelling is finding the cutest spots by eye. Of course, being well-prepared for a trip and knowing the main places to visit is amazing but walking down side-streets and alleyways can reveal the most beautiful shops and cafes. I came across Posh Pop, a bakery stuffed full of cakes and enormous cookies; I opted for a red velvet cookie, which was beyond yummy! As it was my final day in NYC I decided it was time for a notorious NYC bagel! Not being able to find a bagel shop I asked a local for their recommendation, to which they replied…Bagel Bob’s. I opted for a poppy seed bagel with salami and cream-cheese, it was the best! After riding the subway for the last time, munching on the delicious bagel I felt gutted to be leaving. I will 100% visit again, I am also certain that I will have part of my career in the phenomenal city. New York is always a good idea!

I FELL IN LOVE…HIS NAME IS NEW YORK! – PART 2

THE OUTFIT

New York was an unforgettable trip; I will always remember my first visit to ‘the city that never sleeps’! It’s so hard to know what to wear. Before I visited I was torn between looking ‘killer’ and being warm & comfy. With the NYC crazy cold temperatures, I packed for Arctic weather…however, I was extremely lucky to have temperatures of 10 degrees daily! The second day was jam packed. Cream baggy jeans from Zara were the base for my outfit, the waist drawn in by my brown Gucci belt. I tucked a Zara cream thin-knit jumper with gold button detail on the sleeve into the jeans. I threw my brown fur coat over my shoulders, slipped on baby-pink, fluffy socks under cream Converse boots and finished the outfit with a H&M silk scarf in pale pink and charcoal grey. An impeccable balance of fashion and comfort. The key to New York dressing is styling an outfit that suits all occasions; perfect to throw on and wear all-day-long.

THE EXPERIENCE

I started the second day with a classic Starbucks. America is the perfect place for me; even at Starbucks everyone is buzzing with energy. After a white chocolate mocha and almond croissant, I headed to the MoMA – Museum of Modern Art. Home to the legendary ‘Starry Night’ by Vincent Van Gough and ‘Campbell’s Soup Cans’ by Andy Warhol, as well as, unbelievable modern art. MoMA is a significant hub for inspiration; I was captivated by the classic, characteristic prints in monochrome. Being left tantalised by the art, I searched for a typical New York pizza to devour; an appetising pepperoni deep-base pizza square was more than adequate.

Midday I headed to the Hudson Yards Shopping Centre. With every shop from Zara and Sephora, to Dior and Coach, the shopping centre provided inspiration for both my actual budget and my dream budget. Designer stores are cottoning on to the importance of Millennial consumers and Gen Z consumers; the loyal consumer of the future. The experience in brick-and-mortar luxury stores is astonishing in comparison to 10 years ago. The shop assistants give personable experiences for all consumers; enticing the new audiences. The Dior saddle bag and Coach red bag caught my eye; both stores staff were brilliant allowing me to try the bag with my outfit! After exploring the designer stores for delectable products, I headed to the High Line.

The High Line was once a railway network through NY, converted into the picture-perfect walk-way displaying New York’s stunning views. Spying the Giorgio Armani head office on the walk, as well as a breath-taking sunset the High Line did not disappoint. Littered with artistic instalments along the walk, the High Line is a MUST when in NYC. I spent about 2 hours taking in the views, regularly pausing to take in the buzzing atmosphere; stopping for a lengthy time at a window overlooking a heavily populated NY road. The stream of yellow taxis was hypnotic. I’m so thankful that I decided to take my time to take in the atmosphere along the High Line as I was lucky enough to experience the most stunning sun-set highlighting the NYC skyline. As the sky darkened the lights of Chelsea welcomed me in the distance.

Chelsea was the pot-of-gold at the end of The High Line. A treasure trove of tasteful restaurants, classy designer stores and niche galleries. Upon exploring Chelsea, I came across the Atouche Gallery, sneaking into the gallery the silence of the room overwhelmed me, until a friendly Frenchman cheerily greeted me; he was keen to learn about why I was visiting and my love for fashion. It is so important to do research prior to visiting a city, however I highly recommend exploring the side-streets to find the exclusive spaces. The art was beyond enticing, each piece secreted an erotic connotation; so refined and stylish. Along the street, designer shops littered with Balmain had exceptional art wall-to-wall. Chelsea is the definition of elegance.

Brands incorporating lifestyle into their business’ is a trend; I’ve learnt about this at university, the Starbucks Reserve being used as an example, our lecture scattered with images of the legendary location. Now…I can’t see long distance without my glasses, but I did recognise the Starbucks logo and the intimidating doors of the Reserve. I physically ran to it! I’m such a coffee lover, the concept of a ‘Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory’ for coffee lovers is my heaven. On entering, the visuals of the copper machinery, the scent of the sweet coffee beans and the sound of the steam arm was overwhelming me in the best possible way. Everything you could imagine from a coffee bean pick & mix, an espresso martini bar to an extraordinary, copper coffee bean roaster was located in this coffee playground. I ordered an iced latte, with the coffee bean exclusive to the Starbucks Reserve; iconic! After my second coffee stop of the day I ventured to the Chelsea Market.

Historically the National Biscuit Company Factory (where the Oreo was invented), now Chelsea Market! The location has a quaint style, full of charm and personality. The brown stone walls, the music, the flower market, the independent restaurants and the wishing-well combined provided a dreamlike, fantastical ambiance. Spoilt for choice I settled for ‘Le Song’ a scrumptious French Bistro. The tapas style menu intrigued me. I chose mac ‘n’ cheese, calamari and truffle oil infused fries with parmesan shavings. White wine was perfect to pair with the meal. The French setting was so appealing and continued the dream-state. Wandering back out to the streets of Chelsea brought me back reality. After a long day I headed ‘home’. Completely exhausted, nonetheless still buzzing from the day, it dawned on me that New York is definitely where I will live at some point in my life. Perfectly in love!
